even need to spend any money!

Listening
Lunch is a wonderful resource that will speak to the heart of all of us
who still love to have a good story told to us.
My children have
developed a classical ear both for rich literature and the masters of
music by using cds at lunch and at bedtime. I can't speak
highly enough of training an ear when young so that the rich vocabulary
gets ingrained in their mind. This method of teaching is
similar to using the Suzuki program for teaching vocabulary.
Oftentimes, my daughter will astonish us when she uses words right out
of her books in her everyday speech.
Now, we are working on a quilt and have listened to most of the Focus
on the Family Radio Theatre cds while working on our quilt.
What nice memories this is making for our children!

“My own
children listened to unabridged books on tape and CD from the time they
were
babies, for at least two hours per day. They developed enormous
vocabularies,
far beyond their age and grade level. They learned to love long, complex
books
(long books were favorites because they took up so much time!). They
listened
to books which were far
above their technical reading level – and then
went to
find the print versions of the books. And they all developed a wonderful ear
for written language. All four of my children –
even the ones who are not
naturally language-focused – write well,
because there is so
much good, fluent,
stylish language in their memories.”
